Restorative and Yin Yoga in Leeds
What is Restorative yoga?
Restorative yoga is one of the most nourishing and therapeutic styles of yoga, designed to help your body and mind fully let go. Perfect if you’re feeling stressed, exhausted, or simply in need of a pause, this class invites you into deep relaxation and healing.
What to Expect
Restorative yoga uses deeply held, passive postures supported by props such as bolsters, blankets, and blocks. With the body fully supported, you can relax completely and allow tension to melt away.
Poses are typically held for 5–20 minutes
The practice encourages your nervous system to shift into its parasympathetic state – the “rest and digest” response
There is no stretching or muscular effort – just stillness, breath awareness, and surrender
This state of profound rest promotes physical, mental, and emotional restoration, helping to:
Reduce stress and anxiety
Support recovery from illness, fatigue, or injury
Improve sleep and balance energy levels
What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga is a slow, deeply grounding practice that targets the deeper layers of the body — including fascia, joints, and connective tissues. It’s ideal if you’re feeling tight, restless, overwhelmed, or craving space to slow down and listen inward.
Rather than flowing from pose to pose, Yin invites you to linger, feel, and soften, creating time and space for both physical release and mental clarity.
What to Expect
Yin yoga uses mostly floor-based postures that are held for longer periods, allowing the body to gradually open without force. You’ll be supported with props, but unlike Restorative yoga, there is a gentle sensation of stretch.
Poses are typically held for 3–5 minutes
Mild to moderate sensation is encouraged, never strain or pain
The practice works with the fascia, joints, and energetic pathways
Stillness allows the nervous system to settle while cultivating patience and awareness
Over time, Yin yoga can help to:
Improve flexibility and joint mobility
Release deep-seated tension and stress
Calm a busy mind and support emotional balance
Increase circulation and energetic flow
Build resilience by learning to stay present with sensation
Yin yoga is less about doing and more about being — meeting yourself exactly where you are and allowing change to happen slowly, naturally, and with care.
Who is this class for?
Absolutely everyone - no experience is required. Restorative and Yin yoga is especially supportive if you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or looking for a gentle practice to complement a more active lifestyle.
