Gillian Teaches our popular Flow & Restore Tuesdays 10am
Gillian is a Yoga Teacher and Employee Experience Consultant.
She believes our busy lives mean that we are often too distracted to pay attention to how we are feeling physically, mentally & emotionally, and sees it as her job to give you the time and space to reconnect with yourself and notice what you need. Her classes are kind, compassionate and heartfelt.
Gillian is also a Registered Menopause Yoga Teacher and avidly promotes yoga as a way of alleviating and soothing some of the associated symptoms and finding a way to thrive through this stage of life.
What inspired you to become a yoga teacher? I had spent years running and my body felt so tight and in need of a very good stretch that I decided to try a yoga class. The rest, as they say, is history, I became hooked and never looked back.
How would you describe your teaching style and the kind of space you hold? I teach from the heart in a non judgmental way. I just want people to show up on the mat and watch the transformation happen. I truly believe yoga has no age limit and that it is the perfect antidote to today’s ‘always on’ society.
How do you want people to feel when they leave your class? In tune with themselves and likethey have more space physically, mentally and emotionally.
What can someone expect if they’re coming to your class for the first time? I always take time at the beginning of a class to allow everyone to settle and arrive. We’ll then connect with our breath and begin to flow before slowing down into some deeper longer held poses and of course we’ll always finish with a lovely restful savasana.
Is there a quote, mantra, or philosophy that guides your teaching – or your life? ‘The grass isn’t greener on the other side, it’s greener where you water it.’ I don’t know who said this first but I love how it focuses on nurturing yourself and taking ownership of your own happiness and success.
What do you do for fun outside of teaching? I love trail running, good food and wine, reading, gardening and being with my friends and family.
